Extreme Close Quarter Tactics
An advanced 2-day course for experienced shooters and armed professionals. This course will focus on engagements inside of "double arm distance." This course features a significiant amount of retention work, unorthodox shooting positions, introduction to some Combat Focus shooting concepts and a variety of less-lethal options. During this course students will utilize impact reduction equipment and training rounds to engage one another and role-players with firearms while grappling and during various gun-grab or ambush scenarios.
The core components of this course are a key part of the curriculum for military special operations personnel who train with I.C.E. in the Close Quarters Counter Ambush program.
This is an intense course meant for armed professionals and individuals with advanced weapons handling skills and reasonable levels of physical fitness. Therefore, students must have prior training experience with I.C.E. staff and approval to register for this course. Arrangements can be made for private instruction the day before the course starts to accomodate this requirement. Please speak with a staff instructor for more details or to discuss exceptions.
Brownell's AR Assembly and Armorer's Course
There is no better source for all of your gun smithing and gun building needs than Brownell's! Take advantage of this unique opportunity to build your own AR with the assitance and guidance of Brownell's world class staff at their headquarters in Montezuma, Iowa. During this intense day of education and activity, you will be able to select each part from the Brownell's catalog and assemble your own custom AR type rifle in anticipation of taking 2 days of Combat Focus Carbine training with Rob Pincus at the Brownell's Range facility on the days immediately following this course. Students interested in the CFC course must register for that class.
FitShot Coach's Certification
Firearms Instructors are invited to join the FitShot team to learn the fundamentals of and test for certification as a FitShot Coach.
FitShot coaches can integrate the FitShot concept into any firearms training courses or practice session with competent shooters looking for a fun and challenging way to increase their fitness.
Topics to be covered:
- Range Safety
- Gauging Shooter's Abilites
- Programming and Scaling Workouts
- Appropriate Exercise for the Range
- Balancing Shooting and Fitness for the Range
Several sample workouts will be discussed and demonstrated throughout the day.

Tuition: $200.00 plus ammo
Students can expect to fire approx. 100 pistol/100 rifle rounds and come equipped with a pistol, 3 mags, and holster. Rifles may be availiabe at the range. Please check with your instructor prior to the first day of the classs.

Combat Focus Shooting and Advanced Pistol Handling
This 3 day program combines the curriculum of the Combat Focus Shooting Course with much of the Two Day Advanced Pistol Handling Program into one 1500 rnd course. In addition to exploring the principles and fundamentals of the Combat Focus Program and numerous drills to help students develop a better understanding of the Balance between Speed & Precision, this course will cover the techniques of 360 degree presentation from the holster, one handed (strong & weak) weapons handling, unorthodox shooting positions and much more. This course can be taught at any square range and will also expose students to making the most out of any range session to keep tactical pistol training in context!
Students should expect to fire 1500 rounds.
Introduction to Defensive Handguns
The Introduction to Defensive Handguns Course is designed to educate the student about the handguns that are best for personal defense and how to use them efficiently in the context of a home defense scenario.
Introduction to Combat Focus Shooting
Introductions to the Principles and Fundamentals of the Combat Focus® Shooting Course can be taught in one to four hours. These courses range in price according to the planned course time.
Intro to CFS is offered to give prospective students, media, hosts or those without the time or resources for a full 2 day course an idea of what that course covers, the core principles of the CFS Program, the fundamental techniques of intuitive defensive shooting and the training methodology that is used in all of the CFS Programs.
This course will provide the student with base level defensive shooting skills and some ideas for efficient practice of those skills.
Students will fire approximately 250 rounds.
Fundamentals of Combat Focus Shooting
The Fundamentals of CFS is a one day course that will expose the student to all the core principles and fundamentals of the Combat Focus® Shooting Program. This course will cover the basics of intuitive defensive shooting, Combat Accuracy, The Balance of Speed & Precision, an introduction to the understanding the Body’s Natural Reactions during a Dynamic Critical Incident, understanding the integration of lateral motion and additional concepts as time allows.
This Course will provide the student with an understanding of true Counter Ambush training with a defensive firearm, base level defensive shooting skills and a training methodology for continuing to develop those skills.
Combat Focus Shooting
The Combat Focus® Shooting Program is an Intuitive shooting program designed to help the student be more Efficient with a defensive firearm in the context of a Dynamic Critical Incident.
This course is two full days of intense training, teaching and practice. The course will cover the following topics:
- Fundamentals of Defensive Shooting & Intuitive Skill Development
- Combat Accuracy
- Lateral Motion
- The Balance of Speed & Precision
- The Critical Incident Reload
- Volume of Fire
- Realistic Training for Multiple Target Engagement
- Understanding the Body’s Natural Reactions during a Dynamic Critical Incident.
- The Skill Development Cycle
- One Handed & Weak Handed Shooting
- Non-Diagnostic Linear Malfunction Clearing
- Shooting in Motion (When, How & Why)
The Combat Focus® Shooting Course is not designed to make you the best shooter you can be on the range, rather its goal is to help you quickly develop fundamental skills that you can apply in a worst case scenario defensive shooting situation.
CFS is based on years of constantly evolving information about how the body works and what really happens during Dynamic Critical Incidents and has been heavily influenced by the diverse group of instructors that are certified to teach it and the thousands of students who have been through courses all around the world. The program features a variety of specialty drills and training methods that the student will be able to utilize in the their own practice after the course in order to continue to develop their abilities.
Students will fire between 1000-1200 rounds.
Combat Focus Shooting Instructor Development
The Combat Focus® Shooting Instructor Development Course is an intense academic 5 day program designed to give you insight into, and increase your understanding of, the principles and concepts that underlie the CFS Program. This course also focuses on helping you to be able to share that information with others.
The course will consist of some range with over 40 hours of classroom lecture & discussion and assigned homework for the evenings. In addition to the concepts specific to CFS, adult learning, neuro-scientific principles of learning & ambush response, professionalism and marketing your courses will be covered as well. At the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to become eligible for certification as CFS Instructors through their participation in a written exam and a subjective teaching test. After successfully completing both tests, candidates must team teach or assist in one full class before becoming fully certified to teach on their own. If a CFSID Student does not successfully pass the tests during the course, they may re-test (for no additional fee) in the future.
The CFSID Course has been called a "Graduate Program in Defensive Firearms Training" and is often compared to college coursework by attendees. Prior participation in end user CFS Training is the only pre-requisite to attend. Historically, since 2004, there is an approximately 50% success rate for students seeking certification as instructors.
Advanced Pistol Handling
The Advanced Pistol Handling course is designed to expand the circumstances and conditions under which a student can apply the skills developed in the Combat Focus® Shooting Course. This course will cover:
- Non-Diagnostic Linear Malfunction Drills
- One handed & Weak Handed Reloads
- One Handed & Weak Handed Malfunction Drills
- Presentation from the holster in 360 degrees
- Unorthodox Shooting Positions (grounded, seated)
- Shooting Around Cover
- Unreasonable Distance Shooting
- Volume of Fire
- The Balance of Speed & Precision
The APH Course is designed as a companion course for students who have completed fundamental defensive shooting training in the CFS Program and want to expand their skill sets and increase competency. At the end of the course, the student will have been exposed to (and practiced) shooting positions from all plausible angles while standing, seated, kneeling, prone or supine as well as properly shooting around cover in order to maximize its protective value. Students will also train one handed firearm handling, reloading and malfunction clearing. Unlike the CFS Program, in APH students will be forced to deal with a variety of malfunctions in a way that is congruent with the conditions of an dynamic critical incident.
The APH course is an intense physically and mentally challenging course that will take any students confidence and ability to defend themselves with a gun to a higher level.
Students will fire between 800-1000 rounds.
Combat Focus Carbine: One Day
The Combat Focus® Carbine Course is designed to expose students to an efficient method of defending themselves with a semi-automatic rifle during a dynamic critical incident. All of the principles and fundamentals of the Combat Focus® Shooting program are applied to the carbine and the following topics are covered:
- Four Points of Contact with a rifle and Intuitive Shooting Fundamentals
- The Balance of Speed & Precision with a carbine
- Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Aiming Methods
- Combat Accuracy
- Volume of Fire
- Critical Incident Reloads & Efficient Carbine Handling
- Transitioning to a Pistol
- Counter Ambush Response with a Slung Rifle
- Shooting while Standing, Squatting, Kneeling & Seated
- Shooting around Cover & in Unorthodox Shooting Positions
- Fundamental Carbine Malfunction Clearing
The CFC Program is physically challenging course with a lot of activity and high round count. This program is often offered as a one day add on to a Combat Focus® Shooting Course, but is also available as a two day stand alone course.
Students will fire 700 rounds of ammunition-600 rifle and 100 pistol.
Please Note: In order to register for this course, a student must have completed a CFS course that offers at least one (1) day of CFS instruction.
Combat Focus Carbine: Two Day
The Combat Focus® Carbine Course is designed to expose students to an efficient method of defending themselves with a semi-automatic rifle during a dynamic critical incident. All of the principles and fundamentals of the Combat Focus® Shooting program are applied to the carbine and the following topics are covered:
