Why I teach Combat Focus Shooting...
Having taught thousands of students as an NRA instructor I felt something was desperately lacking in the training curriculum. The courses were taught “as is” with no further education behind the WHY’S of what we do. I was tired of teaching a curriculum where the answer was based upon long outdated and “accepted” methods. I began to question myself why things were taught in such a simplistic way with no real reasoning behind them. I began taking more advanced courses to further my knowledge on subject matter related to self defense and defensive firearms techniques. I came across the CFS curriculum and having a background in science and medicine, I was immediately drawn to it.
CFS had answers and sound reasoning behind the WHY questions. Explanations were backed up with empirical evidence, as well as medical science( neurology, physics, anatomy and physiology, kinesthesiology, psychology and philosophy). Through all of the doctrines of CFS, I was able to find the sought after answers, and provide feedback for my students looking for reasons beyond the “accepted” ones. CFS offered real world solutions to real world problems, and coupled with the counter ambush techniques, I felt it was something I needed to be a part of. I felt the only way to bring proper, advanced training to my students who were seeking high level defensive firearms skills, was to teach them the fundamentals and applications of skills that CFS offered.
To quote Socrates, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. That is why I teach CFS. I became a certified instructor in 2011 and soon found out why it is regarded as one of the highest integrity courses in the industry. CFS answers the WHY questions that many people leave unanswered.
