Sadler, William
My Bio
William Sadler has over 30 years experience in firearms use and training with his initial formal training in the US Army as an enlisted Infantryman. He is currently running a company that provides hi-tech security solutions that combine physical and digital security consulting and penetration testing via combined red-team black-hat operations. He also provides private armed security for various organizations.
After leaving the military Mr. Sadler worked on various technology development projects in software, electro-optical sensor R&D, mathematical optimization, and Artificial Intelligence. Most recently he formed a company to develop a new form of Artificial Intelligence application based on the biology of the brain. As an aside from the R&D work he began teaching part time in Photography, SCUBA, and Firearms.
Mr. Sadler is a Private Pilot, Mixed Gas and Overhead Environment Diver, PADI SCUBA Instructor, Underwater Photography Specialty Instructor, National Geographic Published Photographer, Forensic Photographer, NRA instructor in five disciplines, and a Combat Focus® Shooting Instructor
Why I teach Combat Focus Shooting...
Recently my emphasis has changed from other types of instruction to just teaching Defensive Shooting. The reason is simple, look around you and you can probably divine most of them. But the change to CFS came a bit more slowly, I was an original skeptic. Weaver stance, front sight press, etc. was my mantra and I don’t change something that works unless someone can provide a hard reason. Efficiency is one reason, a very good one. But to convince someone their technique is efficient requires evidence, science, logic and sound methodology in the investigation.
You might guess from my background that I am logical and methodical, I LIKE the scientific method it’s the best tool humans have found for critical inquiry into any subject matter. Yet, so many systems devolve into dogma; they become stuck in tradition of the founders and cannot change. I have always sought, whether working in Math, Computer Science, SCUBA or Firearms Instruction logical reasons for rule sets based on as hard a science as you can find and systemic internal consistency without formal contradictions. Any system that meets that criteria and stays sufficiently flexible as to evolve with new evidence and maintain that standard is rare.
That rare quality is why I have been so strongly attracted to the body of knowledge known as Combat Focus® Shooting. Along with the training principles exemplified by I.C.E. Training the "Integrity", "Consistency", "Efficiency" built into the CFS system, there is a consistent, logical, empirically sound reason to believe the system works. With its basis in physics, physiology, cognitive neuroscience, and relevant empirical evidence within the context of civilian involved shooting incidents and having strong evidence of changing when the data requires it to change - not driven by the winds of the current fad or held static by a great ponderous body of tradition, the system meets all criteria for soundness. That is what drove me to the system and is why I have adopted CFS as my only instructional model.
